THANKSGIVING
Hello Everyone!! I have made it through my second week at the MTC and things have been going well! Time has been moving quicker and I am getting to know so many people as well as learn so much about the gospel. Here’s a little rundown of my week since last Tuesday.
Wednesday: On Wednesday we got a new companion. His name is Elder Saluni and he is from California. He is a Tongan guy that played football in High School and is almost as big as me (I like to tease him about it a lot haha). He has to stay in the MTC a little longer because he had an allergic reaction to fish and might have to be reassigned because his mission is a little island by Fiji where they eat a lot of fish. He is one of the coolest people I’ve met, he absolutely loves the gospel and you can tell it has helped him so much in his life. He is so friendly to everyone and I get to meet all his Polynesian friends at the MTC. He really helped with our TRC lesson and has taught me a lot already. Oh and it was also Elder Hart’s birthday.
Thursday: Thursday was Thanksgiving, it was a really good day and I got to see how much I am blessed in my life. We started out the morning with breakfast burritos and I managed to eat more of them than Elder Saluni. After that we went to the first devotional. We sat down in our seats which were kind of far from the pulpit. There were rumors that one of the twelve apostles were coming but we didn’t know who it was. When we got settled in our seats one of the ushers came over and had us move to a spot closer to the pulpit, I ended up four people away from the aisle and about 30ft from the pulpit. Elder Uchtdorf and his Wife spoke, it was way awesome and I felt the spirit so strongly, the spirit and happiness radiates off of Elder Uchtdorf and I can truly testify that he loves everyone and is a servant of the Lord. When the devotional was finished he stared walking around and greeting everyone, he started walking down the aisle by my seating area first. When he got to my row he shook the people sitting on the end’s hands and I using ,y blessing of freakishly long Monkey arms reached across the four people and shook his hand as well. After that we went to thanksgiving lunch/dinner. It was a lot better than I thought it would be and my whole district sat together as a family. We had a huge service project where we made meals for the Utah food bank and it was really fun. I proceeded to take some turkey naps the rest of the day through a movie we watched. After the last devotional at night we went out to see the Christmas lights at the MTC and I became the photographer for Elder Saluni and his Polynesian friends, I’m pretty sure I have more pictures of them than I do of me haha.
Friday: Friday was a pretty normal day, just the usual schedule with our classes
Saturday: Saturday was normal as well, we play volleyball for exercise time and I’m thankful for Morgan teaching me to play, a sister came up to me and said that she heard I was really good at volleyball so apparently I’m becoming famous haha.
Sunday: Sunday’s are really long in the MTC, it’s a lot of meetings. But I started finding all my ancestors stories on family tree and it’s so cool to read all their histories and stories and the miracles and blessings in their lives. I feel a lot closer to all of them and it’s good to know where I come from.
Monday: We went to the medical clinic on Monday for Elder Saluni could get tests done and be evaluated for his allergies and if he needs to be transferred or not. I had to tell him not to scratch the spots where they injected him (it was mostly teasing) but it went well, we figured out that he is in fact allergic to fish and are still awaiting his mission information. It was good to get out of the MTC and get some fresh air and real world experience to help me not go crazy. The rest of the day was filled with appointments to discuss the report from the doctor and how Elder Saluni was feeling about his call.
I hope you all have had a good week as well and that everything is going well for all of you. You all are great and I am thankful yo know all of you. Love, -Mason
